View Video Tribute View Service Charles Kenneth “Ken” Wiles passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Saint Thomas Hospital. Born on May 16, 1945, in Nashville, Ken was the son of the late Mary and Charles Wiles, and was raised in Madison, Tennessee. He graduated from Lipscomb University and began his teaching career in Maury County. It was there that he met Deborah Meadows, who he married in 1974. Ken continued his career in education, ultimately serving as the principal for Riverside Elementary until he retired in 2010. He served many schools over the years including Carver Smith, Highland Park, Columbia Academy, and Santa Fe. Ken served the City of Columbia on the City Council and the Planning Commission. He had previously served on the planning committee for the Columbia River Walk, the Board of Directors of Maury County Water System, and participated in Leadership Maury. He loved golf, his garden, and was a bluegrass music fan who enjoyed playing banjo and guitar with other musician friends. He was a devoted member of Graymere Church of Christ, where he regularly participated in activities to serve others and often led singing. Ken's life was guided by his strong faith, and his greatest joy was his family. Ken is survived by his wife Deborah Meadows Wiles of Columbia, son Brent (Ann) Wiles of Nashville, daughter Emily (Brad) Nielsen of Lawrenceburg, six beloved grandchildren Ben Nielsen, Buford Wiles, Bailey Nielsen, Charles Wiles, George Wiles, Beckett Nielsen, and brother Steve (Norma) Wiles of Madison. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday at 10:30am at Graymere Church of Christ with Andrew Phillips officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:30pm at Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 3pm-7pm at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.
