Charles "Charlie" Ralph Maxwell, 75, retired courier for First Farmers & Merchants Bank, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at his residence on Knud Drive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Davis officiating. Burial will be in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Saturday after 12:00 noon at the funeral home. The Davidson County native was the son of the late Austin Hartford Maxwell and Barbara Allen Brewington Maxwell Parker. He retired from Ford Motor Company in Sterling, Michigan, in 1980. After his retirement, he moved to Columbia, where he was employed as courier for First Farmers & Merchants Bank until his retirement in 1994. He was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels Program in the Santa Fe Community for six years and was a member of Santa Fe United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Frances Brown Gidcomb Maxwell of Columbia; one daughter, Debra (Thomas) Powell of Warren, Michigan; two stepsons, Barry (Debra) Gidcomb of Columbia; Larry Gidcomb of Hendersonville; one brother, Millard (Margaret) Maxwell of Santa Fe; three grandchildren, Heather (Mike) Aston and Holly Powell, both of Warren, Michigan; Matt Gidcomb of Columbia; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Odell Wolfe and Juanita Derryberry; one half-sister, Edna Hammond; and one half-brother, James L. Dawes. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Culberson, Edward Gregg, Randy Maxwell, Troy Derryberry, Tracy Maxwell, David Derryberry, Dwight Maxwell and Gary Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Santa Fe United Methodist Church, retirees of First Farmers and Merchants Bank, Rev. Elizabeth Stephens, Martin Murrell, Randy Walters, Dale Hill, Lewis "Buddy" Martin, Ed Lucas, Bob Brown, Harry Parrish, Norman Harris, Clyde Skelley, Wendell Pigg, James Prince, Henry Harris, and J. W. Shouse.
