View Video TributeView Funeral Webcast Charles Edward McBroom, 85, President of Parrish Lumber Company and resident of Charleston Lane, died Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Pastor Billy Kimbrough officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors at graveside provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church of Columbia, 2790 Pulaski Hwy., Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Long Beach, California, Mr. McBroom was the son of the late Anthony Matthew McBroom and Lula K. Dawes McBroom. After graduation from Baxter Seminary High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following military service he earned a Bachelor's Degree from Tennessee Technological University. Mr. McBroom was an Auditor for the Internal Revenue Service for a number of years. Following his retirement from the IRS in 1973, he was active in the daily operation of Parrish Lumber Company. Mr. McBroom was involved in home building and development of several neighborhoods and large-scale projects in the area. He continued involvement in the business until his death. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Columbia. Survivors include two daughters, Elaine M. (Gerald) Waggoner and Linda M. (Robert) Walker both of Columbia; a son, Randy (Joy) McBroom of Columbia; grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) Creech of Oxford, Mississippi, Caroline Megan McBroom, Sydney Lynn Walker, Nathan Edward McBroom, Robert Lee (Lauren) Walker, II, Cody McBroom Walker all of Columbia, Jeremy M. (Courtney) Hammond of Oklahoma City, OK; step-grandchildren, Vikki (Steve) Bagby, Gerald D. Waggoner, Jr., Col. John (Lisa) Waggoner; several beloved nieces and nephews; and future great-grandchild, Charli Anne Hammond. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years, Genette Huddleston McBroom and a daughter, Cynthia Ann McBroom. Active pallbearers are Nathan McBroom, Kevin Creech, Cody Walker, Robert Lee Walker, II, Phillip Vaughn, Wallace Brown, John Waggoner and Jerry Waggoner. Honorary pallbearers include past and present employees and associates of Parrish Lumber Company and McBroom Home Builders.
