Mr. Charles Melvin "Pete" Whitworth, 70, retired mechanic and resident of Pickens Lane, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Johnny Mack Young officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The Giles County native was the son of the late Wilburn A. Whitworth and Sarah Alice Gregg Whitworth. He was a self-employed mechanic and body shop repairman at East Eighth St. Body Shop. He served in the United States Army stationed in Germany. Survivors include a daughter, Vanessa Coleman of Waverly; one son, Charles Joshua Whitworth of Columbia; two sisters, Imogene Smith and Nita Strong both of Columbia; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn Coleman and Daniel Coleman both of Waverly; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Carl "Bill" Whitworth. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
