View Funeral Webcast Charles Allan Woody, 62, died Saturday, February 14, 2009 at his residence on Gravel Hill Road. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with David Morris and Curtis Dowdy officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday after 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Highland Church of Christ Building Fund, 497 East James Campbell Boulevard, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native grew up in the Santa Fe Community, son of the late Allan Madison Woody and Louise Fitzgerald Woody. He was a 1964 graduate of Santa Fe High School where he excelled as a basketball player on one of the school's most outstanding teams. He later attended Martin Methodist College in Pulaski. After a year at Martin he entered in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War and was assigned to duty as a Military Policeman at the U. S. Military Academy at West Point. Mr. Woody worked at Monsanto Company for 18 years and later at General Electric Company. More recently, he was associated for several years with Yates Services. He was a member, former deacon, and currently serving as an elder at Highland Church of Christ. As an extension of his church activities, he enjoyed mission work with the City of Children in Mexico. Mary Helen Wilson Woody, his first wife and mother of his son, Chris Woody of Mt. Pleasant, died June 21, 1971. He is also survived by his wife of 34 years, Paula Ellis Woody of Columbia; daughters, Bethany (Jeff) Jones of Benton, Kentucky and Laura Woody of Spring Hill; son, Chris Woody of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Kayla Woody, Chelsey Woody, Clay Woody, C. J. Woody, Laney Beth Jones, and Anderson Ellis Jones; sister, Betty (Jerry) Johns of Columbia. Active pallbearers are Larry Turner, L. G. White, Curtis Flowers, Don Westmoreland, Bob Lloyd, Perry Gates, and Scott Turner. Highland Church of Christ deacons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
