Mrs. Charlotte Harris Adams, 89, retired teacher, died Thursday, September 23, 2004 at her residence on Santa Fe Pike. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday at Godwin-Chappell United Methodist Church with Rev. Earl Davis and Thomas Culberson officiating. Burial will be in Godwin-Chappell Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 7 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Saturday from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. at the church. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Curtis Harris and Ora Walters Harris. She was married to Leo Adams who preceded her in death January 13, 2004. She was a 1934 graduate of Columbia Central High School and a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. Mrs. Adams served as principal of Athendale School until it closed following the 1963-64 school year then taught 6th grade at Baker Elementary School for a total of 38 years in the field of education. She was a member of Godwin-Chappell United Methodist Church. Survivors include her son, Edward Lewis Adams of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Harris Thompson and Evelyn Harris Jacobs. Pallbearers will be Eldridge McMeen, Freeland McMeen, Carl Sellars, Perry Upshaw, J.W. Slaughter, Wally Beasley, Joe Tomlin and Wayne Fitzgerald. Honorary pallbearers will be Enoch George, Ed Harlan and Santa Fe Charge of United Methodist Churches.
