Chester Chunn

CHESTER ODELL CHUNN Chester Odell Chunn, 80, retired employee of Monsanto and resident of Taylor Road, died Thursday, January 16, 2003, at NHC of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Ed Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Shires Memorial Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Columbia Academy. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Marshall County native was the son of Louise Rainey Chunn Rollins of Columbia and the late Chester Burr Chunn. He served in the U. S. Armed Forces during World War II. Mr. Chunn was a longtime member of Philippi Church of Christ where he had served as deacon for several years. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Bessie Kerr Chunn of Columbia; two sons, Larry Thomas (Kathy) Chunn of Columbia; Chester Lee (Reba J.) Chunn of Keller, Texas; three sisters, Frances (Bill) Andrews of Spring Hill; Ruth (Richard) Brown of Columbia; Billie (Wendell) Cooper of New Port Richey, Florida; four grandchildren, Lesa Jenette (Phil) Stanfill; Christi Marie (Brock) Tobish; Christopher Scott Chunn, and Darrell Chunn; one step grandchild, David Patrick Gipson; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Long and one brother, Winford Chunn. Pallbearers will be Phil Stanfill, Brock Tobish, Darrell Chunn, Scott Chunn, Neal Wall, David Thomason, Richard Brown, Josh Fralix, and Teddy Fralix. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Philippi Church of Christ and retired employees of Monsanto Maintenance Department.
