Chester Howell, 74, retired employee of Conalco, retired self-employed logger and resident of Snow Creek Road, died Friday, October 12, 2018 at St. Thomas West Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Byron Ash, Brother Ollie Amos, and Pastor Steven Heard officiating. Born April 23, 1944 in Giles County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Quillear Howell and the late Lula Beatrice Garner Howell. Mr. Howell enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, hunting, and fishing. He was of Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, whom he married June 26, 1970, Ruthie Chapman Howell of Columbia; daughters, Denise (Dale) Lee Crumback of Columbia; Amanda (John) White-Willis of Shelbyville; Tammie Ray of Columbia; Vickie Howell of Columbia; brothers, Herman (Nancy) Howell of Columbia; Bruce (Liz) Howell of Dover; sister, Joyce Thornton of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Jeremie Ray; Christopher Ray; Matthew Wilson; Sammie Wilson; Jesse Lee; Chad Lee; Timothy Taylor; Mary Lou Taylor; Patrick Taylor; Mandi Willis; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by nine siblings. Active pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
