Christine Bennett Poe, 89, long-time resident of Mooresville Pike, died Thursday, July 25, 2019 at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Swango officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born May 20, 1930 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Bennett and the late Bulah Pruitt Bennett. On July 2, 1949, she married Pleasant William “Billy” Poe who preceded her in death February 27, 1998. Earlier in life, she worked for Ben Franklin’s & Woolworth’s Department Stores, and was a seamstress for Dixie Manufacturing. Mrs. Poe was a long-time member and pianist for Blue Springs Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter, Deborah (Gilbert) Demastus of Lynnville; son Gary Wayne Poe of Dallas, Texas; sister, Pauline  (Doris) Watson of Columbia; brother, Melvin (Carolyn) Bennett of Columbia; sister-in-law, Nina Moore of Sun Lakes, Arizona; grandchildren, Harry Gilbert “Skipper” (Heather) Demastus, III, Patrick (Sandra) Demastus, Kenneth (Jennifer) Demastus, Kristen Demastus; nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lester Bennett, Chester Bennett, and Elden Bennett. Active pallbearers will be Skipper Demastus, Patrick Demastus, Kenneth Demastus, Kristen Demastus, Paul Riggins and Danny Auville.  Honorary pallbearers include Johnny Andrews, Doris Watson, men of Blue Springs Free Will Baptist Church, and staff of NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care.
