Christine Grimes Wright

Martha Christine Grimes Wright, 89, longtime resident of Columbia, died Monday, October 17, 2016, at NHC Columbia. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mark Proctor officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to Highland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 1800 Highland Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401 or Alzheimer's Association, 4825 Trousdale Drive, Suite 220, Nashville, TN 37220. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. On October 2, 1944, she married Herman Henry Wright who preceded her in death February 25, 1962. Very energetic and outgoing, Mrs. Wright loved to talk and always left others with a smile, but more importantly she was very devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren - who were the loves of her life. She was a kind and caring person who put others' needs above her own and was always there to lend a helping hand. She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughters, Judy Lynn House of Columbia and Patricia Jane Speicher of Laurel, Maryland; sons, Jerry Herman (Patricia) Wright of Columbia and Clark Williamson (Brenda) Wright of Shelbyville; granddaughters, Wendy Roland Glover, Jennifer Leigh Hatley (fiancé Thomas Faulk), Kellie Derryberry (Marc) Craig, Ashley Nichole Baker, Rebecca Lynn (Brett) Boren, Amanda Christen (Justin) Bailey; and great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Daxton, Breanna, Gage, Kaylee, Maggie, Barrett, Jack. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, William Hugh Cross; mother, Bessie Irene Lee Cross; and sister, Elizabeth Miller.
