Clara Lee Baker Choate

Mrs. Clara Lee Baker Choate, 90, long-time resident of the Theta Community, died Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Wayne Cornwell officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Sunset Hills Cemetery Fund, c/0 Calvin Cheek, 2332 Les Robinson Road, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late B. E. "Gene" Baker and Lillie Snow Walters Baker. She was a member of Theta Church of Christ. She was married October 1, 1934 to Mack W. Choate who died February 23, 1991. Survivors include six daughters, Gladys (J. B.) West of Theta, Barbara (Weldon) Adams of Columbia, Judy (David) Poynor of Theta, Mary (Donald) Hassell of Theta, Alma (Bobby) Norman of Water Valley, and Phyllis (Enoch) George of Santa Fe; a son, Cordell (Maie) Choate of Murfreesboro; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Renis (Dot) Baker of the Boston Community and Fay (Juanita) Baker of Nashville; two daughters-in-law, Catherine Choate of Columbia and Lois Nevin of Michigan. She was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. John Simmons, Dr. Ambrose Langa, Dr. James Kelley, Staff of Life Care Center and members of Theta Church of Christ. The family wishes to give thanks to the staff of Life Care Center, Dr. John Simmons, Dr. Ambrose Langa, and Dr. James Kelley for their compassionate care provided over the years.
