Claude Allen Craig, 82, retired English teacher and resident of Terrace Drive, died Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Life Care Center of Columbia. The family will visit with friends Monday from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Private family graveside service will be held at St. John’s Churchyard. The family suggests memorials to Columbia Central High School, 921 Lion Parkway, Columbia, TN 38401 or the Maury County Animal Shelter, 1233 Mapleash Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 24, 1937 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Henry Craig and the late Gladys Duke Craig. He earned his Master’s degree in English from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and taught for 40 years at Columbia Central High School. Mr. Craig was an avid Tennessee fan, animal lover, and enjoyed colleting antiques and collectables. He was a member of the Maury County Retired Teachers Association Survivors include his wife, whom he married October 9, 1970, Jill Knight Garrett Craig of Columbia; sisters, Janice Brown, Mary Young both of Columbia; brother, Neely (Theresa) Craig of Harvest, Alabama; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and life-long friends, Jerry Locke of Columbia; and Bob Riddle of Murfreesboro.
