Claude Anthony Fitzgerald, 78, retired Iron Worker for Local 492 and resident of 6th Avenue, died Saturday at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Peery officiating. Burial will follow in West Point Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born March 11, 1942 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Claude Ulna Eugene Fitzgerald, Sr. and the late Blanche Holt Fitzgerald. Mr. Fitzgerald was a graduate of Spring Hill High School and grew up in the West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed going to car shows, motorcycles, and visiting The Great Smokey Mountains. Most of all he enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Ann Tomlin Fitzgerald of Williamsport; niece, Dawn (Brent) LeMay of Columbia; nephews, Joey (Diane) Hargrove of Columbia and David Fitzgerald of Williamsport; great nieces and nephews, Destini (Carl) Gonyon, Dustin (Andrea) Fitzgerald, Alexie Hargrove, and Colton Griggs; great great nephews, Kalix, Calen, and Mason; and his sweet little puppy dog, Dixie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ulna Eugene “Gene” Fitzgerald, Jr.; sister, Patricia Fitzgerald Hargrove; and brother-in-law, Joe W. “J.W.” Hargrove. Active pallbearers will include Joey Hargrove, David Fitzgerald, Dustin Fitzgerald, Brent LeMay, Bobby Hyle and Carl Gonyon. Honorary pallbearers will include the McDonald’s Coffee Drinkers, Pete Ridley, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Isabell, Doug Boshers, Wayne Thompson, Sarah Fitzgerald Binkley, and Ricky Fitzgerald. The family would like to express a special thanks for the excellent care given to him by Dr. Julie Wood and staff, Nurse Practitioner Kelley Scharrer and staff, the nurses and staff of Fresinius Dialysis, the doctors, nurses and staff of Maury Regional Medical Center ICU and Compassus Hospice.
