Cleo Pogue Head, 88, homemaker and resident of McIntire Drive, died Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Livengood officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born August 9, 1928 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. Pogue, Sr. and the late Lou Vertie Garner Pogue. On April 23, 1949, she married Earl Ray Head who preceded her in death December 9, 1967. She was a 1946 graduate of Hampshire High School and worked for South Central Bell prior to marriage. Affectionately known as Grandmommy, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and yard work. Mrs. Head was member of Beta Chi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Volunteer, and Highland Avenue Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter, Brenda (Jody) Shaw of Columbia; son-in-law, Jim Zabek of Owensboro, Kentucky; grandchildren, Jenny (Turner) Burton of Birmingham, Alabama; Kelley (Randy) Tharpe of Smyrna; Haley Shaw of Birmingham, Alabama; Sara Zabek of Owensboro, Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Garner Burton, Sington Burton, Madison Morgan, Avery Tharpe; sisters, Norma Jean Lentz of Jackson; Martha Love of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Terri Zabek; brothers, Johnnie Pogue, Joseph Pogue, Jr., Cecil Pogue, Sam Pogue, James Pogue; and sisters, Nannie Pogue Mash, and Gladys Pogue Mitchell. Active pallbearers will be Jody Shaw, Turner Burton, Randy Tharpe, Jared Miller, Jim Zebek, Douglas Love, and Gary Love.The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Belinda Bart, Hospice Compassus and special appreciation to Juli Maxwell for her dedication and loving care to Mrs. Head.
