Clifford Earl "CE" Hutcherson

Clifford Earl "C.E." Hutcherson, 91, well-known farmer and life-long resident of the Carter's Creek Community, died Friday, August 5, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. The family will visit with friends Monday after 4:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols concluding with Masonic Rites at 8:00 p.m. conducted by Columbia Masonic Lodge #31. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with John Hayes and Ken Head officiating. Burial will follow in Lasting Hope Cemetery. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. Born March 22, 1920, he was the son of the late Walter and Nevada Choate Hutcherson and attended school in the Beech Grove Community. He married the former Mildred Martin March 23, 1946 and their fifty-four year marriage ended with her death March 30, 2000. He retired from Union Carbide Corporation with 40 years service in the Laythe Room. Mr. Hutcherson farmed and trained horses since childhood. He was an avid gardener and loved sharing his produce with family, neighbors, and friends. He was a faithful member of Beech Grove Church of Christ for many years and a fifty-year member of Columbia Masonic Lodge #31. Survivors include his daughters, Sheila (Eddie) Hickman and Deborah (Jeff) Thompson of Columbia; grandchildren, Bert Hutcherson, whom he reared, Sarah Elizabeth (Sean) Hickman-Mcleod, Haley (Derrick) Carroll of Columbia, and Jason (Farrah) Dickey of Centerville; great-grandchildren, Braelyn Carroll and Blair Dickey of Columbia; sisters, Margaret Hutcherson of Columbia and Helen Alvis of Jacksonville, Florida; brothers, Merrill (Edna) Hutcherson and R. C. (Johnnie) Hutcherson of Columbia; special nieces and nephews, Brenda (Terry) Evetts, Gary (Cara) Hutcherson, Terry (Mona) Hutcherson, David (Julie) Hutcherson, and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Ellie Hutcherson, Avie Hutcherson, and Grace Hutcherson Eckel; and brothers, Orville Hutcherson, Hardy Hutcherson, and Robert Hutcherson. Serving as active pallbearers are David Hutcherson, Gary Hutcherson, Terry Hutcherson, Murray Ring, Joe Roberson, Terry Pruitt, David Pullum, and Terry Evetts. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. James Richardson, Drs. Oxaley and Quinn, Dr. Thomas Dake, Dr. Nathan Lafferty, Maury Regional Medical Center 1st Floor Critical Care Staff, Union Carbide Corporation retirees, Columbia Masonic Lodge #31, and staff of the Carter's Creek Convenience Center, Donnie Morrow, Mike Ford, Marty Hutcherson, Randall Evetts, Bobby Evetts, Mark Wynn, and Ryan Flynn.
