Clyde D McCaleb

August 27, 1931 — April 12, 2007

Mr. Clyde Douglas McCaleb, Sr., 75, retired insurance agent with Independent Life and resident of Hiwassee Drive, died Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Adair and Rev. Wilson Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Edwards Cemetery in the Southpoint Community with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Sunday from 1:00 - 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Music Fund at Highland Park Baptist Church, 1800 Highland Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Hickman County native was the son of the late Berry Baker McCaleb and Janie Irene Edwards McCaleb Cochran. He served in the Tennessee National Guard two years prior to entering the U. S. Army in 1954. When released from active duty in the U. S. Army in 1956, he served one more year in the Tennessee National Guard in Chattanooga. He was a very active and devoted member of Highland Park Baptist Church and loved helping other people. Survivors include his wife of thirty-six years, Georgia Dean Hadaway McCaleb of Columbia; four children, Clyde Douglas McCaleb, Jr. and Steve McCaleb, both of Chattanooga; Wynette (John) Harris and Janice McCaleb, both of Nashville; three sisters, Mary Vick of the Sawdust Community; Louise (Pete) Banks of Greenfield Bend Community; Bobbie (Jack) Lowery of Centerville; one brother, Roy (Joyce) Cochran of Shady Grove Community; sister-in-law, Ellen McCaleb of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren, Sonia Roberts, Brandy (Doug) Rogers, Michelle McCaleb, and Shane McCaleb, all of Chattanooga; Autumn Austin of Nashville; two great grandchildren, Tori Roberts and Faithann Marie Austin; close friends, John & Helen Lynn, Kelley Woodside; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas McCaleb and Hubert McCaleb. Pallbearers will be Clyde Douglas McCaleb, Jr., Donald Vick, Doug Vick, John Harris, Rodney Mayberry, Daniel Goad, Hubert McCaleb, Jr., and Alfred Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Highland Park Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class.
