View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Connie Shackelford Smith, former nurse and resident of Williamsport Pike, died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center. A celebration of life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Don Morrow officiating. Entombment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 12 noon until time of service at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Nunnelly, she was the daughter of Peggy Conner Ayers of Centerville and the late William Redden. Mrs. Smith graduated from Columbia State Community College as a Licensed Practical Nurse and was employed at different times by Maury Regional Medical Center, Dr. Ben Gardner, Family Health Group and also served as Executive Director for Countryside Manor. She was very devoted to her granddaughters and enjoyed photography and crafts. Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband, Donald L. Smith of Columbia; daughter, Leah Breece (Greg) Ginn of Columbia; step-father, Bobby Ayers of Centerville; sister, Debbie Gordon of Centerville; two grandchildren, Hannah Ginn and Lauren Ginn both of Columbia; step-daughter, Allison Honeycutt of Maplesville, Alabama; one niece, Brandy Marsh of Nashville; and her beloved dogs, Justice and Reggie. She was preceded in death by a son, William Ryan Shackelford on November 25, 1995. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
