View Funeral Webcast Cynthia Sue Long Carney, 63, former resident of Hood Road in the Knob Creek Community and current resident of Murfreesboro, died Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Centennial Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 12:00 noon at Oakes & Nichols with John Hayes and Charles Hardison officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. Born in Davidson County, she was the daughter of the late Ray Long and Ila May Curtis Long and a 1965 graduate of Hillwood High School in Nashville. She was married May 5, 1967 to Charles Henry Carney who preceded her in death May 25, 1999. Prior to moving to Murfreesboro to make her home, Mrs. Carney had been office manager for Parks-Belk Department Store in Columbia for a number of years. She loved her hobbies, including ceramics, painting, and scrapbooking; but her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. She was a member Beech Grove Church of Christ in Maury County and since living in Murfreesboro attended East Main Street Church of Christ. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Lisa Carney of Murfreesboro; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and John Temple of Nashville; grandchildren, Justin Carney and Landon Carney of Murfreesboro; niece, Jennifer Lynn; great-niece, Samantha Lynn; and beloved dog, "Skippy". Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
