Dorris Luther Hubbell, 74, teacher, farmer, and Church of Christ minister, died Friday, May 23, 2008 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Burton Daimwood, Richard Hubbell, and John Price officiating. Burial will be in Sparkman Cemetery in the Boston Community with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A native and life-long resident of Maury County, he was a 1952 graduate of Columbia Central High School. He also graduated from Columbia State Community College, David Lipscomb University, and earned his MBA from Middle Tennessee State University in 1973. He served a tour of duty with the 101st Airborne Division of the U. S. Army from 1956 to 1958. Following several years of employment with E. I. DuPont Corporation, he entered the field of education and taught at Mt. Pleasant High School for 22 years, retiring in 1995. Mr. Hubbell served over 40 years as a minister of the Church of Christ, preaching for congregations in Maury, Williamson, Giles, and Hickman counties. He was a member of Ephesus Church of Christ. He was an enthusiastic member of the Columbia Noon Rotary Club and was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 2007. Born November 17, 1933 to the late Luther Hooper Hubbell and Dorothy Morgan Hubbell, he married the former Maggie Sudberry, June 29, 1960, who survives. Additionally, he is survived by a son, Dr. Richard (Kim) Hubbell of Hendersonville; a granddaughter, Julie Hubbell of Hendersonville; a sister, Elaine (Don) Deatheridge of Nashville; a nephew, Donald ( Laurie) Deatheridge of Nashville; a great-niece; great-nephew; and uncle, James (Doris) Hubbell of Columbia. Active pallbearers are Donald Deatheridge, John Price, Dr. John Haffner, Jonathon England, Jesse Osborne, Larry Hubbell, Larry Jones, and Edward Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers include members of Ephesus Church of Christ, Edgar Chumley, William Warf, J. B. Long, Charles Raines, and Dalton Raines.
