Danny Benderman "Goober" Owen, 65, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at his residence on East 13th Street. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Angy Trimmer officiating. Entombment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late George E. Owen, Sr. and Jane Margaret Benderman Owen. On March 23, 1972, he married the love of his life, Shelia Diane Thigpen Owen who preceded him in death April 14, 2010. He was a 1969 graduate of Columbia Central High School. Following his employment as equipment manager at Industrial Contractors, he pursued his passion for cars as an automobile salesman and operating Owen Body Shop. Mr. Owen was a member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Callie Owen Roberts of Culleoka; son, Shannon Owen of Columbia; grandchildren, Chassi Owen, Tillie Owen, Dannie Roberts, Scout Roberts, Charlee Cheek; sister-in-law, Pat Owen; nieces and nephews, Kevin Owen, Tracy Owen (David) Rose, Kimberly Hedrick, and Kevin (Erin) Hedrick; and special cousin, Tommy (Vickie) Logue. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, George "Cotton" Owen, Jr.; mother-in-law, Frances Stricklin Thigpen; nephew, Kendall Hedrick; sister-in-law, Prebble Thigpen Galloway; and brother-in-law, Jim Galloway.Active pallbearers will be Marvin Edwards, Dennis Farris, Joe Pipkin, Dakota Cheek, Nick Brown, and Chevy White.
