DAVID A. CATESDavid Allen Cates, 46, owner of David Cates Roofing Company, died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at his residence on East 14th Street. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Johnny Higgason officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. He was born in Columbia and was a member of the Lighthouse Ministries Church. Survivors include his mother, Maudie Lee Hickman Cates; a daughter, Rhonda Faye Cates; a son, Jimmy Allen (Lora) Cates, three sisters, Linda Gayle Cates, Robbie Lee Jackson, Sheila (Kevin) Hutton; a brother, Villie Cates; two grandsons, Dayton Allen Cates, Justen Mateo Cedillo; special nieces, Amy Michelle Denton, Destiny Anderson, all of Columbia; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Velton "Monk" Cates; a sister, Mary Lou Cates; two brothers, Jimmy Davis, Terry Roger Cates. Pallbearers are Steve Hodge, Jimmy Pierce, Kevin Hutton, Pee Wee Posey, Danny Eastep, Bobby Mangrum.
