David Alan Hopper, 67, retired employee of Tennessee Children's Services and resident of Columbia, died Monday, July 24, 2017. A memorial service will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Russ Adcox officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Maury Hills Church Building Fund, 101 Unity Drive, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born May 31, 1950, in Central City, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Fred J. Hopper and the late Wanda Faye Shemwell Hopper. Mr. Hopper earned his Bachelor's degree in Social Work. Mr. Hopper had served in the U. S. Air Force. He enjoyed music and playing the mandolin. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family. Survivors include his wife, whom he married May 11, 1991, Amanda "Joy" Sides Hopper of Columbia; daughter, Callie Hopper of Columbia; brother, Tony (Tammy) Hopper of Greenville, Kentucky; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Loyd and Dexter Sides of Lawrenceburg; sister-in-law, Linda (Jerry) Dryden of Lawrenceburg; nieces, Ashley (Kyle) Keating, Haley Hopper, Bridgett (Matt) Tays, Shonta (David) Harper, Jessica (Justin) Carr; and several great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amanda Alan Hopper.
