Debbie Rose, 63, lifelong resident of Columbia, passed from this world on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Maury Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness. She would have been 64 on her birthday on December 23.
Born December 23, 1960 in Columbia, TN, Debbie was the daughter of the late Glenn Rose and the late Linda Adams Rose. She was a member of the class on '79 from Columbia Central High School. She attended Columbia State Community College and Middle Tennessee State University graduating from both as Cum Laude and with University Honors. She was a Graduate student in the English Department of Middle Tennessee State University, where she was a "Dean Emeritus of Cynicism" of the Honors College, former President of the Iota Chi Chapter of the Sigma Tau Delta, an International English Honors Society.
Debbie was a longtime childcare provider and official storekeeper for the Columbia Girls Fast pitch Softball League. She was an avid reader, when her vision allowed and when her vision failed, she was an audio book fanatic. Always "reading” and learning. She was a poet and won several poetry contests and had her works published in the Tulip Poplar Press.
A self-taught authority on the King Arthur legend and could often be seen dressed up as "Lady Erin" at the TN Renaissance Festival in Triune, singing pub songs loudly and mostly off key. She loved her nieces and nephew dearly and was fiercely proud of them.
She is survived by her only sister, Phyllis (Jim) Moore; nieces, Jennifer (Jess) Moore; nephew, Andrew Moore, all of Williamsport, TN; and niece, Rebecca (Matthew) Hamilton of Cornersville, TN; one great niece, Heidi Tregle Moore, who was the joy of her heart.
A Memorial service is planned for December 29 at Williamsport United Methodist Church. Visitation will start at 2:00 PM with a celebration of life to follow at 3:00 PM. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers will include her cousins from both the Rose and Adams family, caregivers of Lifecare Center of Columbia and every book lover she ever met. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Debbie's memory to the Lions Club International or to the Tennessee School for the Blind, 115 Stewart's Ferry Pike, Nashville, TN 37214.
