View Funeral WebcastDeborah Lou "Debbie" Buchanan King, 51, former Columbia resident, died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Maryville Health & Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with R. T. Rivers officiating. Burial will follow in Baxter Cemetery in the Hampshire Community. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. She was born in Minot, North Dakota while her father was serving in the U. S. Air Force. The family returned to Maury County and made their home here until 1974 when they moved to Henderson, Kentucky where she graduated from Henderson County High School in 1975. She earned a B.A. degree in communications from Freed-Hardeman University and did graduate work at Maury State University. Mrs. King was a member of Eastside Church of Christ in Maryville. Survivors include her children, Amanda Ruth King (Brian) Baker of Knoxville, Barry Jonathan King of Knoxville, and Catherine Elizabeth King of Maryville; her father and step-mother, Dean and Donna Jean Buchanan of Maryville; aunts and uncles in the local area, Joy (Glenn) Petty of Columbia, Nancy (Harold) Skidmore of Guntersville, Alabama, Lloyd Edward "Rip" (Kay) Baxter, II of Santa Fe, and David (Debbie) Baxter of Columbia; numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Baxter Buchanan and a brother, Barry Dean Buchanan. Pallbearers are Lloyd E. Baxter, II, Lloyd E. Baxter, III, David Baxter, Tommy Petty, Brent Skidmore, and Kevin Skidmore.
