Della McMeen Jones, 87, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016, surrounded by family, at her family farm in Hickman County, Tennessee. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home with Dr. Carl Duck officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Born September 29, 1928 in Columbia, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late John McMeen and the late Bertha Adel Taylor McMeen. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Clyde Edward Jones for 50 years until his death October 9, 1998. Della McMeen Jones was strong in the Lord; she never had a harsh word to say about anyone. She won Most Beautiful superlative in her 1947 graduating class of Central High School in Columbia, Tennessee; but her real beauty was her spirit and smile. Della worked for the State of Tennessee Treasury Department and was a volunteer at Maury Regional Hospital. She was a member of West End Baptist Church in Columbia TN. She loved her and Clyde's farm and to fish, just like her mother, Bertha. In later years, she loved to sit on the screened-in back porch and watch the deer and birds. She is survived by her son, Douglas Edward Jones (Martha Gentry) of Nashville TN, daughter, Karen Ruth (Laran) Philpott of Centerville TN, granddaughter, Lauren Dell (Joe) Hoffman and great granddaughter, Della Ruth Hoffman of Nashville TN. She leaves behind a sister, Janie Lamb of Brentwood, TN, her brothers, Frank (Ava Nell) McMeen, Sr. of Cross Bridges, TN, and Taylor McMeen (Judy) of Tampa, FL. She also leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Ruth Andrews, and two brothers, John McMeen, Jr. and Raymond McMeen.Active pallbearers will be Jim Chadwell, Bill Pridemore, John Harris, Judge Jim Kyle, General Paul Summers, Joe Hoffman, Les Jones, Pat Terry, Frank McMeen, Jr., Mike McMeen, and Chuck Bidek. Honorary pallbearers will include Frank McMeen, Sr., Taylor McMeen, and Dr. Ches Alper.
