Armon Deuel Spencer, 71, member of Riverside United Methodist Church, retired employee of the Union Carbide Maintenance Department, and resident of 201 North Hardin Drive, passed Thursday September 28, 2006 at Maury Regional Hospital.Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday October 1, 2006 at Riverside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Wedgewood officiating. Musical tributes will be presented by Mr. Spencer's grandson Matthew Spencer Lentz and nephew Ivan Wendell O'Neal. Interment will be in Spring Hill Memorial Park, with military services arranged by James Patterson and the American Legion Post 19. Visitation will be Sunday after 1 p.m. at the church. Mr. Spencer was born February 16, 1935 to the late John Herman Spencer and Alvilda Green Spencer in Diana, Tennessee in Giles County. Living most of his childhood in Maury County, he graduated from Hay Long High School in 1953. Mr. Spencer proudly served his country from 1953 to 1956 as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army in Germany. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann Barr, on November 21, 1956. He graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College in 1958. He worked in the Maintenance Department at Union Carbide in Columbia from 1967 until his retirement in 1995. He was a dedicated member of Riverside United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and key participant of Building Fund projects, including the 1997 addition. He was a member of the Jim Hewgley Sunday School Class. He was a stockholder of the Hardison Mills Campground and a founding member of Dimple of the Universe Camping Club. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was affectionately known by his grandsons as Papow or PawPaw. He was also known by family and friends as the man who could make or repair anything.Survivors include his wife, Barbara Barr Spencer of Columbia; one daughter; Patty Loraine Spencer (David) Zopff of Shelbyville, Kentucky; one son; Terry Anthony (Irene) Spencer of Spring Hill; two brothers; Elvin Wade "Pete" (Jewell) Spencer of Sante Fe and Eddie Morris (Wanda) Spencer of Pulaski; four grandchildren; Matthew Spencer (Amber) Lentz, Florence, Alabama; Joshua Harrison Lentz, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and twin grandsons John Deuel and Dylan Armon Spencer of Spring Hill. He was preceded in death by one niece, Tammy (Patterson) Matheny and one nephew Randy Michael O'Neal.Pallbearers will be Mr. Spencer's nephews; John Clinton "Skip" Spencer, Coty Buchannon "Buck" Spencer, Michael Neal Brady, Jerry Lee Faulkner, Barry Steven Barr, Gerald Ralph Barr II, Steve Matheny, and Tracy James Patterson.
