Mr. Dewey Latta, 76, retired from E. I. DuPont Corporation, died Friday, June 24, 2005 at his residence on Country Club Lane. At his request, his body was donated to Vanderbilt University for anatomical research. A memorial service will be conducted Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Wendell Robinson officiating. He was a 1947 graduate of Spring Hill High School where he excelled in sports, playing football, basketball and baseball. He coached a Little League team and a Babe Ruth League team for several years. Mr. Latta served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the Wagon Wheeler Square Dance Club. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Bobbie Harmon Latta of Columbia; two daughters, Patti Latta (Walter) Hawranek of Bloomington, Indiana and Connie Latta of Jacksonville, Florida; a son, David Dewey (Manon) Latta of Manassas, Virginia; a granddaughter, Laurene Elizabeth Hawranek; a grandson, Noah Dillan Latta; a sister, Blanch Latta Dillard of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Jewell Latta of Columbia and Doris Latta of Pulaski; brother-in-law, Milton (Bobbye) Harmon of Columbia; nieces and nephews, Kenneth Latta, Jr., Steven Latta, Grant Dillard, Jan Harmon Bloodworth and Leesa Harmon. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Shirley Latta and Kenneth Latta.
