MR. DICK CORN Mr. Robert Franklin "Dick" Corn, 92, long time resident of West Sixth Street, died Monday, October 7, 2002, at Maury Regional Hospital. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church followed by a memorial service at 2:30 P.M. in the church sanctuary with Rev. Tom Smith and Jeff Jacobs officiating. A private graveside service will be conducted at Rose Hill Cemtery with Rev. Tommy Ward officiating. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church. The Meridian, Mississippi native was the son of the late Frank Leonard Corn and Katie Mai Burks Corn and was raised in Estill Springs Community, Tennessee. He was a graduate of Decherd High School Class of 1927. He worked for thirty-six years in the Engineering Department at Monsanto Chemical Company. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was very active in the Ayers-Whitney Sunday School Class where he served as Sunday School teacher co-ordinator for twenty-five years. Mr. Corn was a member of the Columbia Lions Club for many years and the Elks Club. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend and a delightful story-teller who brought joy to all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Gene Wilkins Corn of Columbia; two daughters, Linda (Larry) Homesley of Jackson and Kathie Denson of Columbia; one son, Robert L. (Marcee) Corn of Birmingham, Alabama; nine grandchildren, Lane (Greg) Petrinjak, Leigh Ann (Dale) Conder, Lindsay Homesley all of Jackson, Bailey Corn, Spencer Corn and Peter Corn of Birmingham, Alabama, Lane Denson, Molly Denson, Clark (Honey) Denson all of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Kate Petrinjak, Courtney Conder of Jackson; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elna Bruner and Lyda Mai Corn and by a son-in-law, Dr. Eddie Denson. Pallbearers will be Rob Corn, Larry Homesley, Cam Anderson, Ed Thomas, Wade Dickens, Jim Lester, Clifton Kelley, and Bill Wilsford. Honorary pallbearers will be John Byrom, Harlan Bowsher, Dr. Thomas Dake, Dr. Anthony Khim, members of the Ayers-Whitney Sunday School Class, and gratitude is expressed to the kind nurses and doctors at Maury Regional Hospital, especially Dr. Mark Seago, Dr. Martin Chaney, Dr. Thomas Quinn and Dr. Larry Britt.
