Dick YoungRichard Maury (Dick) Young was born January 20, 1947 in Temple, Texas and died at Emory University Hospital on November 12, 2002 after a short but intensive Struggle with leukemia.Dick moved to Columbia, Tennessee in 1954 where his father Dr. Tom Young established a surgical practice. Dick was a graduate of Columbia Central High School and was named to the All-State football team in 1964. He attended the University of Georgia on a football scholarship where he graduated in 1968.After finishing Law School at Memphis State he clerked for Judge William C. O'Kelly in Atlanta. In 1974 he joined a firm in Athens, Georgia where he practiced as a trial lawyer until moving to Atlanta in 1979 where he continued to practice until his death.Dick was a man with three hometowns- Columbia, Tennessee, Athens and Atlanta- to which he remained connected through circles of life-long friends.He is survived by Linda Young, his wife of 29 years; one son Richard Maury Young, Jr.; and one daughter, Ann Reid Young, all of Atlanta; by a sister, Rebecca (Frank) Stegall of Rome, Georgia; and a Brother, Buck (Lesa) Young of Columbia, Tennessee. He is also survived by his parents Dr. and Mrs. Tom K. Young and thirteen nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be hels at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta where Dick was a member. Visitation will follow in the St. Andrews room at the church.Visitation will be held in Columbia from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Zion Presbyterian Church followed by a graveside service at St. John's Episcapol Churchyard at 2:30 p.m. Oakes & Nichols is in charge of all local arrangements.Active Pallbearers include: Billy Cook, Burton Craig, Billy Davis, Billy Espey, John Murphy, and Mark Stuart.Memorials may be made to the American Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
