Dixie Coffey Toense

June 28, 1931 — January 23, 2021

Mrs. Dixie Coffey Toense, 89, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Poplar Estates Assisted Living. She is survived by her brother, Fred Gauntt; daughter, Lynne Coffey Harrell; son, Tillman Coffey; granddaughter, Valerie Harrell; and grandson, Christopher Coffey. Dixie was born in Texas and moved to Columbia in 1952. Although Dixie’s Texas roots ran deep, she was forever proud to call Columbia her home. Dixie loved life, her family, her cats, people in general, and Columbia. She loved to laugh and to make people around her laugh. Whether from her long tenure as a Weight Watcher instructor or as owner of the Get It Kwik convenience store or a member of her beloved Poplar Estates family, those who knew her as Dixie Toense or Dixie Coffey or simply Dixie likely experienced her sense of humor and shared a laugh or smile with her. Dixie was generous and, more importantly, kind. She will be missed but never forgotten. A smile in her memory would be an appropriate tribute to a truly good person. A private family graveside service will be conducted at Glenwood Cemetery, with Reverend Jim Gardner officiating. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Maury County Animal Shelter, 1233 Mapleash Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.
