Donald Wayne Lunn, 82, retired employee of Monsanto Chemical Company and Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Smith and Rev. Chip Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was reared in Mt. Pleasant, the son of the late Loyd C. Lunn and Mary Lou Mullins Lunn. Following graduation from Hay Long High School in Mt. Pleasant in 1953, he attended Tennessee Tech and Peabody College for three years majoring in Biology and Chemistry. After college, Mr. Lunn was employed by Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home where he assisted with funerals and the ambulance service before beginning his 30 year career at Monsanto Chemical. After retirement from Monsanto, he returned to Oakes & Nichols as a part-time employee for several years. He had previously owned the Lunn family farm in the Hampshire Community, where he thoroughly enjoyed working the land, bushhogging, and raising Red Hereford cattle. He loved attending auctions, was a former Maury Regional Auxiliary volunteer and a member of First United Methodist Church. Don never met a stranger, and there was never a time he didn't greet you with a smile and a handshake. His warm spirit, good will, sense of humor and smile touched everyone around him. Don carried out life to the fullest and all those who experienced his loving spirit will forever miss his bright presence and strength. Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, whom he married June 18, 1964, Betty Winchester Lunn of Columbia; beloved cats, Brother and Sister; devoted niece and nephew, Brenda and Dane Henderson of Columbia; brother-in-law, James Winchester of Columbia; sister-in-law, Bessie Heithcock of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be James Winchester, Dane Henderson, Larry Maxwell, Shane Bradford, Tony Sowell, Donald "Duck" Sharp, Mac Rochelle, and Woodrow "Woody" Horton.
