Donald McEwen Richardson, 94, resident of Navaho Trail, died Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care. He retired from Columbia Power and Water Systems as Operations Superintendent after 44 years of dedicated service. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Vassar officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born January 25, 1928 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Samuel Garrett Richardson and the late Virginia Wilkes Richardson. He was a graduate of Columbia Central High School Class of 1947. On March 15, 1953, he married Mildred “Millie” Hooper Richardson who preceded him in death on May 20, 2017. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany. Mr. Richardson enjoyed traveling with his wife, Tennessee Vols Football, Atlanta Braves Baseball, and collecting knives. He was a member of the American Legion, The National Knife Collection Association, and life-time member of The Case Knife Collectors Club. Survivors include his son, Doug (Amy) Richardson of Columbia; grandchildren, Shannon (Scott) Matthews of North Carolina; Brian (Jessica) Richardson of Columbia; Rebecca (Jeffrey) Currie of Culleoka; great grandchildren, Jackson Meadors, Turner Currie, Riley Richardson, and Mason Richardson. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Ann Prentice. Active pallbearers will be Brian Richardson, Jeffrey Currie, Scott Matthews, Jackson Meadors, Donnie Prentice, and Bobby Prentice. Honorary pallbearers include past and present employees of Columbia Power and Water Systems, Tony Sowell, Joe Newton, Rick Jenkins, Bobby Chance, and Jeff Graham. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care for their care to Mr. Richardson during his stay.
