Donald Wayne "Stoney" Stonecipher Sr

Donald Wayne "Stoney" Stonecipher, Sr.,76, resident of Columbia, died Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with David Conley and Jon Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made to Tennessee Kidney Foundation, 37 Peabody St. #206, Nashville, TN 37210 or American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX, 75284-0692. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.Born November 21, 1941 and raised in Colbert County, Alabama, he was the son of the late Arthur Stonecipher and the late Ruby Smallwood Stonecipher. He was a graduate of Cherokee High School in Cherokee, Alabama, where he played football and Louisville Locomotive Engineer School for L&N Railroad. Mr. Stonecipher retired from CSX Transportation Railroad as an Engineer and owned Brown's Body Shop and Stoney's Auto Salvage and Wrecker Service.Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ruth Vess Stonecipher of Columbia; children, Detria (Tommy) Dale; Shelia (Jeff) Parks; and Donald Stonecipher, Jr. all of Columbia; grandchildren, Taylor Dale; Ryan Stonecipher; and Trenton Parks; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Fuller; and Leola Kent; and brothers, Billy Stonecipher; and Leon Stonecipher. Active pallbearers will be Vince Carson, Ray Pace, Lamar Polk, Ronnie Smithson, Johnny Stonecipher, Ricky Thompson, and Terry Thompson. Honorary pallbearers include Taylor Dale, Ryan Stonecipher, Trenton Parks, Harley Kent, Ronnie Stonecipher, Roger Fuller, Chief Tim Potts, Fellow employees of L&N Railroad, Seaboard Systems Railroad, and CSX Transportation Railroad, retired railroaders breakfast friends, past and present employee of Brown's Body Shop and Stoney's Auto Salvage and Wrecker Service, Dr. Nathan Lafferty, Dr. Heidi Schaefer, Dr. Grant Barr, Carey Barr, and Dr. Sean Hughes.The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Maury Regional Medical Center and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
