View Funeral WebcastMrs. Donna Hickman Waddle, a resident of Timberwood Drive in Columbia died on Friday, August 26, at Life Care Center of Columbia.Memorial services for Donna will be conducted Wednesday, August 31 at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home with Keith Johnson officiating. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the service begins. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in Toledo, Ohio on September 8, 1933 to Carlos Patterson Hickman and Lela Belle Rochelle Hickman, Donna grew up in Toledo and was a graduate of Davis Business College and the University of Toledo where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Her family moved back to Tennessee where both of her parents were from after she completed her college education.Once in Tennessee she began working at E.I. DuPont where she met and then married the love of her life, Clarence Joseph Waddle, on October 15, 1955. Joe preceded her in death on April 14, 2013. She was a homemaker and was very involved in her children's school and community activities.Donna was an active member of First United Methodist Church for over 60 years. Community memberships include the James K. Polk Association, the Maury County Chapter of the A.P.T.A., The Tenassee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Pi Beta Phi Sorority (50 year member), the Columbia Garden Club, and the Wednesday Bridge Club.She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard and flowers, antiquing, traveling domestically and abroad, playing bridge, and most of all spending time with her many, many friends. She loved to have a good time and treasured the many friends that she had all over the world.She is survived by her daughters: MaryLee Waddle (Keith) Johnson and Cindy (Randy) Short of Columbia; grandchildren Tyler (Melissa) Short of Hampstead, North Carolina, Adam (Chelsi) Short of Nashville, Allison Johnson (Cory) Powell of Spring Hill, and Wes Johnson of Memphis; and great grandchildren Lyla and Jasper Short of Hampstead, North Carolina. She is also survived by her special canine friend, Lucy Jo, who she loved and adored.A very special thank you to Dr. Minerva Covarrubias and her staff and to the staff at Life Care Center for their excellent care and compassion.
