Mrs. Dora Purcell Smith, 94, long-time resident of Nashville and former resident of Columbia, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at Lakeshore Terrace. Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Dr. Dennis Loyd, Bill Outhier, and P. K. Bramlett officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols. Memorials may be made to Lakeshore Wedgewood, 832 Wedgewood Avenue, Nashville 37203; Edmond Outhier Fund, Lipscomb University, Nashville 37204; or Edmond Outhier Cancer Research Fund, Vanderbilt University, Nashville 37235. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in Phil Campbell, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Purcell and Emma Woods Purcell. Her family moved to Lawrenceburg where she graduated from Lawrence County High School. She was married to the late Clayton William Smith, who served as credit manager of Columbia Power & Water System and farmed in Spring Hill for a number of years. Mrs. Smith was retired from E. I. Dupont Corporation. They moved to Nashville in 1980 from Columbia. Mr. Smith died June 13, 1990. Mrs. Smith was a member of Granny White Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Frank Outhier of Nashville; a sister, Geneva Purcell Watson of Sun City, Florida; grandchildren, Carrie (Jon) Banks of Portland, Oregon and Bill (Teresa) Outhier of Brentwood; great-grandchildren, Susannah Outhier, Wiliam Edmond Outhier, Benjamin Edmond Banks, Lillie Banks, and Stella Banks; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Edmond Outhier. Honorary pallbearers are Lucian Acuff, Dr. Edward Binkley, Dr. Jeff Binkley, Jim Barber, Charles Howell, Sam Harwell, Dr. James McCollum, Randall Pardue, Dr. Richard Garman, Tom Batey, David Sciortino, and C. Oakley Christian.
