Doris C. Dye, age 95, passed away peacefully, at her home on December 24, 2024. She was born on March 28, 1929, to Robert Edward and Drucilla Crumley Gordon Crowder. She grew up on her family farm in the Cedar Hill area of Hampshire, Tennessee. Doris graduated from Hampshire High School in the class of “1947”, where she was presented with the “Good Citizenship Award”. Doris continued her education at Draughons Business School in Nashville. After graduating, she began working at Tennessee Farm Bureau, as a secretary in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Department. Doris retired after 25 years, and started a second career working for 25 years with the Tennessee Department of Human Services and the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.

Doris married Charles Roy Dye, Sr. on June 28, 1952. Together they shared 62 years together, before his death on February 18, 2014. In their later years they moved back to her family farm, where they enjoyed their retirement years. They have one daughter Debbie (Tim) Flowers of Hampshire, and one son Charles Roy Dye, Jr. of Williamsport. One granddaughter Katie Flowers (fiancé Zach Ignatowicz), who brought so much joy to “Mimi” as she was affectionately known by Katie. Survivors also include her sister in law, Helen Crowder, and several nieces and nephews.

Doris and her husband Roy were faithful charter members of Highland Park Baptist Church, where she was recognized as the oldest living member. She was a member of the Volunteer Sunday School Class, and early in her membership she helped in the nursery.

Doris enjoyed books of all kinds and genealogy, where she researched her family origins. She loved watching and feeding the birds in her bird feeders. Doris was a wonderful cook who enjoyed cooking for her family, especially on holidays. She will be remembered as a beautiful lady for her loving and sweet nature and always putting others before herself. Above all she was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord. 

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her eight siblings. Sisters; Edna Ward, Opal Holden, Katherine Brooks, Lilly Curry and Nadine Grose; brothers, Gene Gordon, Joe Crowder, and Robert Edward Crowder. 

Funeral services will be Monday, December 30, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Wilson Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit Sunday, December 29, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Cedar Hill Cemetery c/o Ronnie Hines 3670 Campbellsville Pike Columbia, TN 38401 or Highland Park Baptist Church Building Fund 1800 Highland Avenue Columbia, TN 38401.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Fitzgerald, Dennis Holden, Doug McClain, David Grose, Steven Brooks, and Chris Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Betty and Ray Holden, Joan and Vernon Brooks, and The Volunteer Sunday School Class. 

The family would like to thank Ronna Savage, Olivia Whiteside, Diane Olivier, and Carolyn Jacoby for the exceptional care they provided her and the family will forever be grateful.
