Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Goad "Dot" Alverson, 85, former resident of Porter Circle in Columbia, died Friday, July 6, 2007 at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio. She moved to Hilliard, Ohio in 2005 to be near her son and his family. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Gipson Baucum, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Floyd Goad and Carrie Notgrass Goad. She attended Maury County schools and Columbia Business College. She was employed for many years by the Middle Tennessee Bank prior to her retirement in 1984. She enjoyed traveling around the country for many years and loved cooking, cross-stitch, baking treats for her grandsons, and gardening. Mrs. Alverson was a long-time member of West Seventh Street Church of Christ and since living in Ohio worshiped at Fishinger and Kenny Road Church of Christ. She was married May 11, 1946 to Fred J. Alverson who preceded her in death May 1, 2000. Survivors include a son, Fred D. (Kimberly) Alverson of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Doris Wiley of Columbia and Joyce Savage of Gallatin; three grandsons, Michael (Angela) Alverson of Jackson, Joseph Alverson, and Christopher Alverson of Columbus, Ohio; a great-granddaughter, Alaina Alverson of Jackson; two nieces and seven nephews. Active pallbearers are grandsons, Michael Alverson, Joseph Alverson, and Christopher Alverson and nephews, Wayne Carden, David Savage, and Steve Savage. Honorary pallbearers include former employees of Middle Tennessee Bank and Elders and Deacons of West Seventh Street Church of Christ.
