Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Edgar E. and Mary Crawford Adwell and spent her entire adult life in Columbia after growing up in Selma, Alabama. A former Mule Queen and big-band singer, Dorothy was the devoted wife of Frank Burton Craige, IV of Columbia for 40 years. Since the death of her husband 25 years ago, Dot has been an active member of First Presbyterian Church, the Mistis Club, Columbia Garden Club, and James K. Polk Association. An avid bridge player, she played with numerous bridge clubs and was a life-long member of Grayemere Country Club. She will be remembered most fondly by her friends and family as the consummate entertainer. Always quick with a joke, a smile, and often a serenade, Dorothy was a constant source of joy to those lucky enough to know her. She is survived by two children, Mary Moore Craige Hoover of Seaside, Florida and Frank Burton (Leslie) Dee) Craige, V of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Betty Adwell Howard of Charleston, South Carolina and Peggy Adwell (Ray) Porter of Columbia; four grandchildren, Robert Craige (Ceri Givans) Hoover, Emily Craige (Brian) Gatley, Frank Burton (Rachael Oxford) Craige, VI, and John Crawford Craige; three great-grandchildren, Caroline Adelaine Gatley, John Andrew Gatley, and Claire Oxford Craige; numerous nieces and nephews. Though she has passed, her spirit will always remain with her family and many friends.
