Dorothy Mai Hood Davis, 83, retired employee of Roses and former resident of Seventh Avenue, died Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at Maury Regional Hospital. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery with Troy Nicholson officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late James Newton Hood, Sr., and Ruby Mai Woodward Hood. She was a 1941 graduate of Columbia High School and had been employed at Grants and McLellan's for several years. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Anne Davis Hendrix and Carolyn Davis (Harvey) Nicholson, both of Columbia; three grandchildren, Troy Preston (Jennifer) Nicholson of Hendersonville; Steven Todd Nicholson of Columbia; Mark Allen Hendrix of Murfreesboro; two great grandchildren, Michael Nicholson and Michaela Nicholson, both of Hendersonville; sister-in-law, Margaret Hood of Columbia; and one niece, Kathey (Wildon) Messer of Columbia. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Newton "Buddy" Hood, Jr. Pallbearers will be Troy Nicholson, Steven Nicholson, Mark Hendrix, Harvey Nicholson, Wildon Messer, and Richard Hendrix. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Connelly, Johnny Davis, Bobby & Joan Dial, and Dr. Gaylon Harris. The family wishes to express a special thanks to the medical staff at Maury Regional Hospital.
