Mrs. Dorothy Dean Johns English, 78, former long-time resident of Greeley Drive, retired nurse at Columbia Pediatrics for 35 years and resident of Cornwall Court in Murfreesboro, died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 12:00 Noon at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Jerry Wallace and Rev. Lawrence "Buddy" Royston officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Giles County native was the daughter of the late Dorsey Johns and Lillie Mae Polly Johns. She was a long-time member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church and active in the affairs of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. English was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Hugh Douglas English of Murfreesboro; daughters, Elizabeth (Jim) Bradley of Norcross, Georgia, Elaine (Doug) McKee and Beverly (Charlie Hunt) English, of Murfreesboro; sons, Willis "Bill" (Joanie) Mashburn of Norcross, Georgia and Barry (Karen Cartwright Ring) English of Columbia; sister, Betty Jo Beatty of Lynnville; brother, Marvin Johns of Pulaski; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchildren; several aunts, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dorsey Johns, Jr. Serving as pallbearers are Dorsey Johns, III, Derris Johns, Dale Johns, Johnny Beatty, Ryan Brummet, Brian Johns, Jason Johns and Tim Johns.
