Dorothy Mae Hubbell Thurman, 87, homemaker and longtime resident of Jackson Heights Road, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Theodore Durham officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. Born November 22, 1929, in Giles County, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Hubbell and the late Mary Ellen Hickman Hubbell. On February 5, 1949, she married J. B. Thurman, who preceded her in death August 19, 2009. She was a 1948 graduate of Culleoka High School. For the past two years, Mrs. Thurman had made her home at The Bridge at Life Care Center of Columbia. She was a member of Highland Church of Christ. Survivors include her children, Don (Pam) Thurman, Brenda (Lon) Wilson, and Dennis (Rolanda) Thurman, all of Columbia; sister, Faye Hubbell of Columbia; grandchildren, Kimberly (Andy) Coates of Columbia, Gina Carroll of Nashville, Kyle Thurman of Harpers Ferry, WV, Jeff (Brittney) Carroll of Columbia; Kali (Wes) Lentz of Pell City, AL, Lindsey Thurman (fiancé Mitchell Hahn) of Martin; great grandchildren, Maddie Carroll, Trystan Carroll, Addison Coates, Andrew Coates; sister-in-law, Arlene Hubbell of Stiversville Community; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Hubbell; and two sisters, Rachel Edwards and Betty Jean Puckett. Active pallbearers will be Kyle Thurman, Jeff Carroll, Wes Lentz, Mitchell Hahn, Andy Coates, and Jason Puckett. Honorary pallbearers will include the staffs of Life Care Center of Columbia and The Bridge at Life Care Center.
