Mrs. Dorthy Gibson "Dot" Brown, 79, loving wife and mother, retired underwriter for 25 years for Tennessee Farm Bureau, and former long-time resident of Seventh Avenue in Columbia, died Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama. She had made her home in Rogersville, Alabama for the past several years. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Dave Brown officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 11:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the last surviving of nine children of the late Oscar Sidney Gibson and Mary Etta Prince Gibson. She was a 1947 graduate of Columbia Central High School. Following her marriage in 1947, she worked for several years in the business office of Southern Bell Telephone Company. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, James Charles "J. C. Sunbeam" Brown, Sr. of Rogersville, Alabama; daughter, Jeannie Brown Phillips of Culleoka; sons, James C. "Jimmy" (Linda) Brown, Jr. of Lewisburg and Sarasota, Florida, Jeff (Julie Crane) Brown of Florence, Alabama, and Joe Brown of Columbia; grandchildren, James C. "Jim" Brown, III, Jonathan Brown, Jennifer Brown, Rachael Phillips, Anna Phillips, Virginia Barnes, Sarah Brown, Emily Hedrick, and Alexandria Brown; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Jim Brown, Jonathan Brown, David Gibson, Bobby Pilkinton, Will Barnes, and Dave Brown. Honorary pallbearers include Billy Gibson, Jim Cook, and Ed Holton. The family expresses appreciation to the Doctors and Staff of ICU at ECM Hospital for their care and concern.
