Sammie Dot Grimes Mayfield, 91, retired cafeteria manager for Columbia Academy, and resident of Columbia, died Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at her residence.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday October 3, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Barry Farris and Andrew Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Palestine Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday October 3, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. 

The family suggest memorials may be made to Columbia Academy, 1101 W 7th St, Columbia, TN 38401; or Graymere Church of Christ, 1320 Trotwood Ave, Columbia, TN 38401 . Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born September 3, 1933 in Centerville, TN, she was the daughter of the late Walker Ward Grimes and the late Lela Duncan Grimes. On December 26, 1955, she married James Glen Mayfield. They enjoyed 60 wonderful years of marriage together, until his passing in 2015. She was a member of Graymere Church of Christ.

She is survived by her children, Brian Kleve (Wanda) Mayfield of Brentwood, TN, Jana Lynne Mayfield Robson of Mt. Pleasant, TN, and Glennita Jill Mayfield Lemons of Columbia, TN; grandchildren, Dalton Mayfield of Rapid City, SD, Cody Mayfield of Tampa, FL, Kristen Sanders of Lawrenceburg, TN, Ashley (Jake) Manning of Thompson Station, TN, Lacy Robertson of Murfreesboro, TN; great-grandchildren, Bryce Sanders, Aedan Manning; sister, Nina (Sam J.) Whiteside; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Mary (Max) Grimes Johnston; brother, Junior (Peggy) Grimes; and niece, Beverly Johnston Ward.

Pallbearers will be Atlas Barnsfather, Chris Coble, Jake Manning, Aedan Manning, Tommy Grimes, Jimmy Grimes, Paul Whiteside, Fred Reese, and Bryce Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will include Members of Graymere Church of Christ, Dr. Ben Gardner, Melanie and Pam with Hospice Compassus.
