Mr. Marion Douglas Martindale, 89, resident of the Pulaski Highway in the McCains Community, died Sunday, October 2, 2005 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother William Owens officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Portland Memorial Gardens in Portland. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4- 8 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Crawley, Louisiana native was the son of the late Rev. Charles O'Neale Martindale and Drue Boyd Martindale. On July 17, 1941 he married Opal Lee Ervin Martindale who preceded him in death October 29, 1998. He later married Nola Johnson Benderman Martindale of Columbia who survives him. Mr. Martindale served in the Merchant Marine Corps for seven years after graduating from High School and served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He was a member of the Maj. Gen. William D. McCain Camp No 584 Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Drue Ann (Ed) Huddleston of Paris; three sons, Charles (Fay) Martindale of Hampshire, Larry (Judy) Martindale of Orlinda, Lanny Martindale of Antioch; one sister, Evelyn Martindale Thom of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
