Douglas G. Hickman, 69, resident of Rosewood Drive, died Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Signature Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born March 14, 1948, in Maury County, he was the son of the late William Gordon Hickman and the late Bertie Mae Weatherford Hickman. He was a 1966 graduate of Culleoka High School and earned his Associate's degree from Columbia State Community College in 1975. He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam era. Mr. Hickman was a retired x-ray superintendent at St. Thomas Hospital; and after retirement, he had worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart for a few years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling; however, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church. Survivors include his son, Shane (Nicole) Hickman of Columbia; grandchildren, Lexi Hickman, Adison Hickman, Jaxton Hickman; sisters, Linda (Wayne) Tomlin and Joyce Dugger; brother, Mike (Judy) Hickman; sister-in-law, Carolyn Hickman; and mother of his child, Bonnie Hickman. He was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Hickman; brothers and their wives, Jimmy & Maude Hickman and Dean & Peggy Hickman; and brother-in-law, Robert Dugger. Pallbearers will be David Hobbs, Freddy Ring, Chris Cotton, Thomas Brown, Robbie Dugger, and Jerry Nichols.
