Douglas Fowler Hurt, 67, retired Chief Operator of the Water Filtration Plant with Columbia Power & Water System and resident of Pulaski Highway, died Thursday, June 9, 2005 at Williamson Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Roger A. Parker officiating. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery in Lewis County. The family will visit with friends Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. and Saturday from 2:00 - 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, P. O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Chapel Hill native was the son of the late Paul Hurt and Mabel Fowler Hurt. He was a 1955 graduate of Columbia Central High School and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Hampshire native Sarah Sue Duncan Hurt of Culleoka; one son, Steven Douglas (Shelley L. Wieland) Hurt of Franklin; one brother, Shannon (Lois) Fowler of Moulton, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Hamm. Pallbearers will be Matthew Armstrong, Bob Armstrong, Clay Dugger, Jackie Fowler, Joe Duncan, II, and Kirk Sandy. Honorary pallbearers will be J. D. Matthews, Thomas Jett, Robert Owens, Edwin Scott, Bob Hurt, Tim Clark, Kelly Powell, Mike Cole, past and present employees of Columbia Power & Water System, Dr. Doug Kennedy, Dr. Patrick Murphy, and the Oncology Staff at Williamson Medical Center.
