View Video TributeDr. Charles David "C.D." George, 96, retired veterinarian and resident of Old Zion Road died Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine Catholic Church with Fr. Davis Chackaleckel and Fr. Patrick Connor officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday after 4:00 p.m. concluding with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. The family suggests memorials to St. Catherine Building Fund, 3019 Cayce Lane, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Lawrence County native was the son of the late Brown George and Katherine Held George. On August 6, 1966 he married Mary Scott Jones George who preceded him in death April 7, 1997. Dr. George attended Sacred Heart Church and Grade School in Lawrence County and graduated from Ramsey High School in Birmingham, Alabama where he also delivered newpapers for The Birmingham News. He graduated from Auburn University in 1943 and practiced veterinary medicine for sixty-five years in Columbia. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Knights of Columbus and St. Catherine Catholic Church. Survivors include four daughters, Beth George, Kay George Eysoldt both of Cincinnati, Mary Ellen (Billy) Cook and Julie (Jim) Highsmith both of Columbia; grandchildren, Mark Eysoldt, Jill Eysoldt, Jeff Eysoldt all of Cincinnati, Jason Zwolinski of Los Angeles, California, Chad (Konul) Zwolinski, Brett (Jessica) Zwolinski both of Cincinnati, Anna Clare Sheeter and Lilly Highsmith both of Columbia; sister, Jeanette "Biggy" Laney of Birmingham, AL; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Marie Baranco, Christin Ozburn, Alberta Bartch, Dorothy Welch and Geneva Jardet. Active pallbearers will be Mark Eysoldt, Jeff Eysoldt, Royal Dickson, Jesse Bradford, Greg Ginn, Tony Sowell and Lane Thrasher. Honorary pallbearers include Fred Bray, Wade and Katie Matheny, Billy White, Gloria and Wallace Rich, Jerry Attkisson, John Riley, Glenda Cox, Betty Wilkinson, Jack Craig, David Craig, Dale Craig, Ray Morrow and Baxter Blackburn. The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff of The Lantern and to Dr. Reams Powers and his staff.
