View Funeral WebcastDr. Clay Rozear Miller, 96, retired Columbia physician and former long-time resident of Hillcrest Avenue, died Friday, November 21, 2014, at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Chip Hunter officiating. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Monteagle Sunday School Assembly Cemetery in Monteagle. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. The family suggests memorials to Monteagle Sunday School Assembly, P. O. Box 307, Monteagle, TN 37356. Notes of condolence may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in Pensacola, Florida, he was the son of the late Clyde Ewing Miller, Sr. and Mamie Evelyn Rozear Miller. He was a graduate of Birmingham Southern College and Vanderbilt University Medical School. He entered the U. S. Army during World War II in December, 1943 and attained the rank of Captain. He was assigned duty overseas in 1944 in the European Theatre of Operation attached to the Surgical Battalion of the 410th Regiment, 103rd Infantry Division and earned a Bronze Star. Dr. Miller began his medical practice in Columbia in 1947 as a general practitioner, which included delivering babies and performing minor surgery. He was a member of the staff of King's Daughters' Hospital, was one of 12 founding physicians of Maury County Hospital in 1953, and built the first building dedicated to a medical practice in Columbia on North High Street. He retired in 1989. Dr. Miller was a long-time active member of First United Methodist Church. He married the former Bennetta Helen Loggins on June 20, 1943, who survives. He is also survived by their daughters, Lynne Loggins Miller Haas of Chattanooga, June Dickson Miller (Robert Wilson) Edmonds of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Dawn Rozear Miller (John Samuel) Logan of Arlington, Virginia; grandchildren, Andrea Lynne Nichols, Clay Mason Haas, Jonathan David Haas, Jason Clay Edmonds, Dr. Shannon Edmonds Ardoin, Laura Edmonds Kryzanowsky, Dr. Holly Dickson Edmonds-Barassi, David Hall Logan, Dr. Carol Rozear Logan, Paul Russell Logan, and Andrew Dickson Logan; ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Ewing Miller, Jr. Dr. Miller's grandsons and great-grandson will serve as pallbearers.
