Dr. Howard Clifton Pomeroy, 89, long-time physician in the Nashville area, died Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2016 with his family by his side at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents William Harding Pomeroy and Della Tomlin Pomeroy and Dr. Joe Merryman and Claudette Merryman who helped rear him and were very instrumental in his education. He graduated Valedictorian of his class at Cohn High School. He furthered his education first by obtaining a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee in 1949. He was the recipient of the Lehn & Fink Award and a member of The Rho Chi Society, Alpha Nu Chapter, and Phi Delta Chi.After marrying, he worked three jobs to support his family and went on to earn his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee Medical College in 1959. Upon graduation, he established his general medical practice in Old Hickory, Tennessee. With few specialists in the area, Dr. Pomeroy treated all of his patient's medical conditions from delivering babies and setting broken bones to making house calls. Among many of his recognitions, he was a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians exceeding more than 50 years and the A.M.A. He was elected president of the medical staff at Madison Hospital in 1966. Dr. Pomeroy practiced Family Medicine for 53 years. He was an avid supporter of the Tennessee Volunteers and his profession was his passion and calling. His generosity overflowed with abundance. He will be greatly missed by his patients, friends, and family. Dr. Pomeroy was a member of the Church of Christ.He is respectfully and loving survived by his wife of 65 years, Edna Sweeney Pomeroy; son, Joseph Randall (Kimberly) Pomeroy; grandchildren, Maudie Mae Johnson, Don "Bubba" Johnson, and William "Will" Johnson; sisters, Rose (Ralph) Stewart, and Sandra (Larry) Barnes; sister-in-law, Evelyn Joy (Dr. Norman) Luther; loving cousin, Teresa (Lawrence) Wilson; and loving friend, Katrina Thomas.
