Dr. John Dale Alden, Jr., 78, orthodontist and resident of College Park Drive, died Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Mount Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. He was a 1956 graduate of Portland High School and earned his Doctorate from University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis. He had his private pilot license, enjoyed guitar music, and amateur radio. Dr. Alden was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, whom he married, May 22, 2002, Elaine Jernigan Alden of Columbia; son, John Dale (Carrie) Alden, III of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Madeline "Maddie" Alden; Ben Alden; sister, Elizabeth Alden Crosslin of Portland; brother, Franklin Hardison (Dollie) Alden of Kodak, Tennessee; step-children, Vann Wilkinson; Renee (Harry) Johnson; and step-grandchildren, Adam Johnson; and Andrew Johnson.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Bowman Alden on August 17, 2001 and his son, Franklin Thomas Watson Alden on February 1, 1969.Active pallbearers will be Ben Alden, Walt Robinson, Butch Shrader, Dwight Ledford, John Carey, Adam Johnson, and Andrew Johnson.
